Sewage water treatment

Have you ever wondered where the water you use in your sink ends up or where the contents of your toilet go? It is treated through a special process called sewage water treatment. It is important for this process, because dirty water can go back into nature without influencing something. Through this text, we would understand how waste water is treated, how our technology complements these treatment systems, various treatment options for sewage water within cities, and the need to treat this water for our safety and health.

Step 1: Primary Stage In this first step, large trash and other solid waste are removed from the wastewater. This stage of the process is called screening and grit removal. Then the dirty water goes into a series of tanks (more specifically a primary settling tank). Heavy materials settle at the bottom of this tank, creating a thick layer known as sludge. This sludge is then taken away for additional cleaning. This stage is critical, as it removes the largest and coarsest pollutants.

The process of treating wastewater

Secondary Stage: Next we move on to the second stage in which we process the filthy water with small living organisms also referred to as microorganisms and the process is termed biological treatment. They are very helpful microorganisms and they feed on the remaining dirt and organic substances that remain in the water. Once the microorganisms have completed their work, water is pumped to another tank known as a secondary settling tank. Here, the germs and other small fragments sink to the bottom, the same as in step one. We use chlorine to kill all the last germs, and the water is safe to return out into the environment. This matters so that when the water is finally released, it is clean and will not harm animals or plants. Technology assists to treat water from sewages more effectively and that serves an important role.

Most contemporary treatment facilities have used technology that assists to automate and simplify processes, which can be cost-saving. A technology that has been increasingly popular among special ones is the membrane bioreactor (MBR). MBRs are special because they use membranes to separate clean water from microorganisms. The process produces cleaner water compared to traditional methods and is very efficient. Similarly, since MBRs occupy less area than conventional settling tanks, they are aptly suited for small footprint cities.
