Screen in wastewater treatment

Wastewater is a class of water that is unclean. There are lots of dirty things inside of it, like rotten food scraps, poop and other things that people don't need anymore. This sort of water cannot be returned to rivers or oceans immediately. It has to be cleaned up so it can be safe first. That’s where the screens come in!

Screens are basically large nets that are designed to catch all the things in the BOEEP wastewater that don’t belong there. As dirty water filters through the screens, it catches things like plastic bags, leaves, and even toys that have accidentally fallen in. By catching these items, the drum screen filter help keep the water cleaner. Overall, there is less yucky stuff in the water that needs to be removed, and that's important.

Screening Techniques for Removing Debris from Wastewater

There are many different ways to apply screens for the cleaning of the contaminated water. A step screen is one such type of screen. This BOEEP screen has steps that create a cascading flow of water as it moves over the screen that help to catch debris in the water. So as the water flows over the steps, anything that isn’t meant to be there gets trapped. A another kind of screen is a drum filter screen. There is a rotating cylinder on this screen. As the dirty water passes through this spinning cylinder, debris gets stuck on the outside of it. They are both extremely effective at cleaning water!
